As the leader in environmentally friendly sun care products, we at Reef Safe Sun have real concerns and take real actions to help our environment! While our competitors copycat us and try to take credit for our innovations, we are out in the forefront researching more avenues in which we can be an even more responsible sunscreen & cosmetic manufacturer and make an even stronger positive impact on our planet.
Did you know there are numerous ingredients in sunscreens and cosmetics that utilize palm oil and/or derivatives and we find that certain manufacturers of these palm oil chemical ingredients are demolishing rain forests to make room for palm plantations?
Palm oil is an important ingredient in the manufacturing of soaps, shampoos, detergents, and toothpaste. Palm oil is also used in margarines, baked goods like cookies, and even used for frying products such as potato chips. Palm oil is also gaining popularity as a biofuel.
Our latest research is based upon request from several Reef Safe customers and remains true to our commitment to be a better steward for our planet and to formulate with ingredients that have a certified renewable or sustainable source.
Reef Safe Sun has verified that our palm derived ingredients such as Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, are coming from Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Certified sources and we have further joined the RSPO as a member to help support the movement for manufacturers to demand RSPO renewable sustainable palm oil ingredients. Companies are stripping away the homes of tigers, elephants, orangutans and many more species, including humans to turn the rain forest into palm plantations. This is certainly NOT Eco-Friendly or humane!
We at Reef Safe Sun are about saving our planet's resources and inhabitants, not destroying them nor their habitat. Thus, we have made the commitment to use only renewable/ sustainable RSPO certified palm oil and palm oil derivatives in our products. Certified sustainable raw materials cost up to four times the price of a typical identical ingredient not from a certified source.
Organizations like WWF serve on the board of RSPO, please watch attached video link to learn more about RSPO and its roundtable: https://www.rspo.org/about/sustainable-palm-oil
RSPO is trying to establish the basis for a more sustainable palm oil supply chain. Not only do these new palm plantations destroy the habitats of animal species, they can also create social conflicts in the rights and livelihoods of local communities. Displacing people out of their forest homes.
Not all "natural" ingredients should be considered natural - there is more science to be discovered.
Who really knew? The reason could be the simple fact that unethical companies bend the lines when it comes to marketing claims. After all, being Eco-friendly and saving our planet has become the hot marketing buzz words. However, being all "natural" does not mean that they are Eco-friendly, renewable, or sustainable. Be aware of so called “naturals”, know where your product ingredients are sourced from. Most manufacturing companies will not spend the extra dollars for sustainable ingredients. Thus, you will see a price difference on the shelf.
Once we have exhausted our planet of all of its natural resources then what? The clock is ticking, please do what you can to help preserve our planet while we still can! https://orangutan.org/rainforest/the-effects-of-palm-oil/
